Birralee Primary School

Birralee Primary School

Established in 1970, Birralee Primary School has been an integral part of the Box Hill North and Mont Albert North landscapes, perched on a picturesque hill that offers panoramic views. The school’s stunning location, with extensive treed grounds, delightful garden spaces, and large sporting areas, creates a nurturing environment for approximately 600 students spread across 28 classes.

At Birralee, we take pride in our skilled and passionate team of teachers, as well as the dedicated staff who support our students’ academic journey. From integration aides to administration staff, an E.A.L. teacher, and a librarian, our staff work tirelessly to ensure that every student receives the care and attention they need to thrive.

Academic excellence is at the heart of our educational approach, with a strong focus on literacy and numeracy. Many of our students consistently achieve academic results beyond the expected levels, a testament to the dedication of our teachers and the commitment of our students.

Our curriculum is designed to provide a well-rounded education that goes beyond core subjects. From history and geography to civics and citizenship, environmental studies, and global cultures, our students are exposed to a diverse range of learning experiences. Additionally, we offer specialist programs in Visual Art, Physical Education, Music, Mandarin, I.C.T., and S.T.E.M., enriching their educational journey and fostering personal growth and self-worth.

Diversity is celebrated at Birralee, with our student population hailing from various cultural backgrounds. We actively teach, model, and encourage respect for diversity and a strong sense of community responsibility, preparing our students to be global citizens.

The performing arts are alive and well at Birralee, with an annual musical production, a school band, and senior and junior choirs. For those with a passion for music, we offer optional lessons in a variety of musical instruments.

Sports and physical activity are integral to our school life. In addition to weekly P.E. classes and senior interschool sports, we provide a specialist dance program, tennis lessons, gymnastics, and athletics for all students. Throughout the year, we organize various sports clinics to further develop their skills and passion for sports.

Leadership opportunities abound at Birralee, with senior students taking on roles as School Captains, House Captains, Sports Captains, Band Leader, Choir Leader, and Visual Arts Leader. Our Junior School Council gives students from Year 4 to Year 6 the chance to represent their peers and contribute to school decisions.

We believe that education is a joint responsibility, involving both the school and parents. Our close-knit community is a result of the strong school-home partnership. The active parent body and Parent and Friends Association (PFA) enthusiastically participate in school events, fostering a warm and supportive atmosphere.

At Birralee Primary School, our collective goal is to provide the best outcomes for our students. By working together, we create a nurturing and inspiring environment where every child can thrive and reach their full potential. With a commitment to excellence, a celebration of diversity, and a strong sense of community, Birralee Primary School is more than just an educational institution – it’s a place where bright futures are shaped and lifelong memories are made.
